Piled Slab in Bolton

11th January 2024

Majestic MOT station in Bolton recently appointed the team at Basetec Piling to install a piled slab at their premises.

The Piling Project

We were recently brought on board to install a piled slab on-site at Majestic MOT station in our local area – Bolton. Taking just 15 days to complete, our team got to work on this commercial piled slab which was installed on the forecourt of this premises, working directly with the client throughout to keep them updated on all stages of the project.

After a free quote and site survey was provided by our piling experts, a large piled slab was the chosen piling solution for this project due to the unstable ground conditions. Once we had agreed on the piling solution with the client, we were pleased to get to work alongside I.L Bainbridge Ltd (Structural Engineer Calculations), Eagle Plant Hire Bury (Machine Plant Hire) and JME Concrete Pumping (Concrete Provider).

How We Did It

We started the initial works by marking out the rectangular area which needed to be excavated in order to install the piled slab. From here, we carried out the reduced level dig to form a level surface, which would allow us to install the piles to the required height. After this was completed, we then installed multiple steel piles into the newly formed level to help strengthen the foundations.

To further reinforce the foundations, we then placed the measured-to-size steel ring beams on top of the driven piles and shuttered them with wooden boards to keep them tidy for when the slab is poured. After this, we applied a complete rebar mesh layer to ready the area for inspections by the local Building Inspector, which of course we passed.

Finally, the concrete slab was poured and levelled by JME Concrete Pumping, and once set, our part of the project was completed, on-time and to the satisfaction of the client.
